The Sixteen

I joined The Sixteen as an alto in 2012, touring with them to New Zealand and Australia where I was a soloist at the Sydney Opera House in Handel’s Dixit Dominus. Other solo work for the group includes Mozart’s Requiem at the Alhambra Palace in Granada.

The group takes their yearly Choral Pilgrimage programme to cathedrals and beautiful venues all over the country.

At the Edinburgh Festival in 2019 I was the alto soloist in the world premiere of Sir James MacMillan’s amazing 5th Symphony, Le Grand Inconnu. I performed it in Tallin with MacMillan and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in 2023.

The Gabrieli Consort

I have sung for Paul McCreesh in the Gabrieli Consort since 2006, recording and performing in both the small consort and the larger choir. Recent discs with the group include, Britten’s War Requiem and Elgar’s, The Dream of Gerontius.

ORA Singers

I have been a member of ORA Singers since it formed in 2016. It commissions new pieces which are linked with and take inspiration from mainly renaissance works.

ORA commissioned me to write a piece, Pulchra Es, for the group which is on our disc Sanctissima. It was published by OUP in 2022.

The Choir of The Age of Enlightenment

This is the choir that works with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.  I loved performing Handel Israel in Egypt, conducted by William Christie at the Proms in 2017 and in 2013, Brahms German Requiem conducted by Marin Alsop.

Exaudi

Occasionally I join this fantastic ensemble, led by James Weeks, working on both early and contemporary repertoire.  We performed an extraordinary work by Enno Poppe at Cite̒ de la Musique in Paris in 2010 called Interzone with the brilliant Ensemble Intercontemporain.  More recently I sang Arvo Pärt Stabat Mater at Kings Place Concert Hall with members of Exaudi.

Musica Secreta

Co-directors Deborah Roberts and Laurie Stras run this female vocal ensemble. We mostly perform music by female composers of the 16th and 17th Centuries but have recently recorded The Complete Lamentations of Jeremiah for Good Friday from manuscript newly discovered by Laurie Stras in Florence. The disc is called From Darkness Into Light.

Arculo Consort of Viols

In 2024 I performed a series of concerts with this group, entitled Were I A King. I composed a piece of that name as a reflection on John Mundy’s original madrigal.
